Posted on June 6, 2012

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake rattled some of the west coast of Ireland this morning. It occured roughly 60km from Mayo at a depth of 15km, according to BGS.

An earthquake of this magnitude is rare in the area but is just one of some 200 smaller quakes that happen around Ireland every year.

There have been reports of some structural damage, however this has not yet been confirmed.
