Ofcom has come under fire from Brits after deciding to ban Iranian news channel, Press TV, from Sky. ‘…It should be up to people to decide’ (not Ofcom) a Brit commented on a Press TV talkshow aired yesterday.

Chris Bambery, a UK polical analyst, said that Press TV had done a ‘sterling job’ of maintaining free speech on its channel and that he had never had his views censored by them. He accused Ofcom of trying to take alternative views off the airwaves.

The ban comes in the wake of the supposed foiled terrorist attack on the US by Iran and the UK – obviously wanting to preserve its ‘special relationship’ with the US – has adopted the anti-Iranian stance (although the propaganda machine had been in motion for some time in both countries) and has chosen to censor Iran’s side of the story by banning its news.

As much as the people of this country cling on to the idea that we live in a democracy and have the right to free speech, I this blatant evidence to the contrary will have people thinking differently.
